2018 Training Day
The Kevin Apuzzio Foundation is proud to present two incredible instructors for our 1st annual training day. We are offering this as a low cost training day to allow firefighters to take classes that typically aren’t offered in this area.
Laddering with a Purpose
Fire-ground laddering has been moved down the list of priorities in many fire departments. This could be caused by cuts to departments and apparatus or a shift in a department’s priorities both voluntary and forced. Some departments have realized engine companies put out fires and have difficulty justifying the need for a truck company or even see the need for truck work to be a priority.
Truck company tasks are present at every fire. Being able to perform those tasks efficiently can change the course of an incident. This class will focus on the lost art of ladder work.
We’ll touch on basic ground and aerial laddering skills, ladder priorities for engine and truck companies, laddering tactics, working safely and effectively from ladders, ways to become more comfortable on ladders, flow the throw scenarios for engine operators, opinions instead of throwing ladders as well as tower and ground ladder company drills.
RED FLAGS / Recognize & Survive / KEEPING US SAFE ON THE FIREGROUND
Many fine programs are available to help Firefighters deal with mayday situations. This class will hopefully help Firefighters and Fire Officers stay out of those situations. Using actual LODD situations the class will deal with how to identify, interpret, and rectify RED FLAGS that confront us everyday on the fire ground.
A major factor in Fireground safety is Communications. The class will look at communication issues including hardware as well as human performance. Actual radio broadcasts will be utilized to illustrate points in the class.
Thru lessons learned in LODD’s and Near Miss incidents, Firefighters and Fire Officers will come away with tools to keep themselves and those in their command safe on the fire ground.
